Our appreciation for Number 9 goes beyond the number itself. It reflects something very close to our philosophy: balance, harmony, beauty and thoughtful design.

When we first created The Lombok Lodge Boutique Hotel, nine Lodge Suites simply felt right. Intimate enough to offer highly personal service, yet with just the right sense of life and atmosphere. Nine became part of what makes The Lombok Lodge feel less like a hotel and more like a very special private home. And somehow, 9 stayed with us.

There is another rather lovely connection to our favourite number.
In English, the expression “to be on cloud nine” means to feel extremely happy – a state of pure joy, contentment and bliss.
We rather like that idea. Because whether you are waking up in one of our 9 Luxury Lodge Suites, spending a barefoot day in one of our 9 Beach Gazebos on Gili Meno, or retreating to one of our 9 Beach Villas at Lombok Private Villa Estate, we hope the feeling is much the same.

A little removed from everyday life.
A little closer to paradise.
And, perhaps, somewhere around Cloud Nine.

THE POWER OF NUMBER 9 IN FENG SHUI

Our Private Villa Estate has been created in harmony with Feng Shui principles, encouraging a natural sense of tranquillity and flow throughout the property. From the positioning of the villas to the tropical gardens, pathways and open spaces, every element has been thoughtfully considered to create a feeling of calm, privacy and connection with nature. And Number 9 fits rather beautifully into that story.

In Feng Shui and Chinese culture, 9 is considered an especially auspicious number, traditionally associated with completeness, longevity and enduring good fortune.
As the highest single-digit number, 9 also carries a sense of completion – of something becoming whole.
Quite fitting, we think, for a place designed around harmony.

Our Number 9 story does not end with suites, gazebos and villas. You may even find nine fish swimming in a traditional Feng Shui pond. And yes, we have our own. Take a look at The Estate Koi Pond in front of Pak Ben’s Wine Bar and The Estate Lobby, and you will discover that our fascination with Number 9 has found its way there too.

A well-known Feng Shui tradition is to keep nine fish – traditionally eight brightly coloured red or gold fish and one black fish. Together, they are associated with prosperity, positive energy and protection.

In Feng Shui, a total of nine fish split into eight red or gold koi and one black koi creates the ultimate number for wealth, completion, and energetic protection. The eight bright koi attract and multiply prosperity, while the single black koi acts as a shield to absorb and neutralize negative energy or bad luck.

THE MEANING OF THE NUMBERS

The Number 8: Sounds like the word for wealth and prosperity in Chinese culture (fa), making it a powerful magnet for financial growth and success.

The Number 9 (8 + 1): Represents eternity, fulfillment, and the highest level of completion between Heaven and Earth.

THE MEANING OF THE COLORS

Red or Gold Koi: Symbolize active, vibrant energy (chi), pulling steady financial abundance and good fortune into your space.

Number 9 also has a fascinating place in China’s imperial history, appearing repeatedly in the symbolism and architecture of historic palaces and temples, where it was associated with power, longevity and completeness.

So yes, we admit it. We have a little thing for Number 9.

EVEN OUR ROOM NUMBERS TELL A STORY

Since we are talking about numbers, there is another little detail you may notice when staying with us.
At The Lombok Lodge Boutique Hotel, our Lodge Suites are named using numbers in Bahasa Indonesia:
Lodge Satu, Lodge Dua, Lodge Tiga…

At The Private Villa Estate, we take things one step closer to home.
Here, our villas are numbered using Sasak, the local language of Lombok:
Villa Seqek, Villa Dua, Villa Telu…

It may seem like a small detail, but we rather like those.
They give each property its own identity while connecting our hospitality a little more closely to the culture, language and island we call home.

THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE MISSING NUMBERS

Where Is Villa Number 4?
Where is Number 8?

Observant guests may notice something rather curious at our Private Villa Estate.
There is no Villa Number 4, no number 7, no number 8
No, we did not lose a villa.
There is a story behind it.

In several Chinese languages, the word for four sounds similar to the word for death. Because of this association, Number 4 is traditionally regarded as less auspicious and is sometimes avoided in room numbers, addresses and even floor numbers.
Think of it as somewhat similar to Number 13 in Western tradition — a number that occasionally and rather mysteriously disappears from hotel floors, room numbers and airline seat rows.
As The Private Villa Estate has been thoughtfully influenced by Feng Shui and Asian traditions, we decided to respect this cultural tradition too.

Plot 7 became home to The Estate Lobby, while Plot 8 was reserved for our beautiful Coconut Grove.

So, should you find yourself wandering through The Estate looking for Villa 4, Villa 7 or Villa 8, you may be wandering for quite some time. They simply are not there.
And if you have ever wondered how an Estate with 9 Beach Villas somehow ends up with a Villa 9, Villa 10 and Villa 11… now you know.

A little Feng Shui, a little Estate history – and a little Number 9 magic.
But with nine beautiful Beach Villas to choose from, we think you will forgive us for skipping some numbers along the way.

SO, WHY DO WE LOVE NUMBER 9?

Perhaps it began by chance.
Perhaps not.
What started with 9 Luxury Lodge Suites has become a small signature running through The Lombok Lodge Hospitality.
