REMINDERS BEE TOUR
Beekeeping, or apiology, is one of the world’s oldest arts – and perhaps one of the most beautiful.
When you hear the word bee, what comes to mind first? The sweet taste of honey?
The gentle buzzing in the air? Or perhaps that tiny fear of getting stung?
If the thought of bees makes you a little nervous, I have some good news for you. Not all bees sting – and the ones we’re talking about today, the stingless bees of Lombok, create one of nature’s most precious gifts: our Lombok Liquid Gold.
STINGLESS
No protective gear is needed. Our Trigona bees are gentle and stingless, making this a safe and joyful experience for all ages.
Unlike typical honeybees, they produce less honey, but what they do create is exceptionally rich in antioxidants, enzymes, and nutrients. Each hive produces around one liter of honey per year – proof that true luxury takes time.

TWO TRIGONA SPECIES AT TLLH
CLEPYARIS (YELLOW): With bright yellow markings and a sweet-sour taste, they thrive in warm tropical climates.
SAPIEN (BLACK): Darker in color and found in cooler air, their honey carries a deep, tangy richness.
THE MAGIC OF STINGLESS BEES
It may surprise you to learn that there are over 20,000 species of bees in the world — and many of them are stingless! These gentle creatures, also known as Meliponines, still have a stinger, but it’s too small to use. Instead of defending themselves with stings, they focus their energy on creating something extraordinary: a uniquely rich and healing honey.
Their honey is different from the kind you find on supermarket shelves. It’s darker, thinner, tangier, and packed with nutrients and antioxidants. The flavor changes throughout the year depending on which flowers are in bloom — a little sweet, a little sour, with hints of fruit and forest.
THE NAME TRIGONA
Trigona comes from the words “Tri” (three) and “Gona” (benefit), symbolizing its threefold gift:
SOCIAL BENEFIT: Uniting communities and creating livelihood for local beekeepers.
HEALTH BENEFIT: Packed with natural goodness that boosts immunity, aids healing, and supports overall wellness.
ECONOMIC BENEFIT: Helping sustain local families and traditional beekeeping practices across Lombok.
WHY WE CALL IT “LIQUID GOLD”
Lombok locals have used this honey for generations – for its taste, of course, but also for its incredible healing powers.
Modern science now confirms what Lombok’s people have always known: stingless bee honey has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties.
Whether used as a natural remedy, a beauty treatment, or simply drizzled over breakfast, this honey is truly one of Lombok’s treasures.
MEET LOMBOK’S TINY HONEY MASTERS
Here in Lombok, the most common stingless bee species is Trigona Clypearis Friese. They live in hollow tree trunks / wooden boxes and work together in small colonies — about 7,000 bees per hive — producing just 200 to 300 ml of honey every four months. It’s a true labor of love.
Inside the hive, every bee has its role:
The Queen Bee (Ratu): Lays the eggs and keeps harmony in the colony.
The Worker Bees: All female collect nectar, pollen, and resin, and tend to the young.
The Drones: The males have one purpose only: to mate with the queen.
Each tiny bee works tirelessly, day after day, collecting the essence of Lombok’s tropical flora.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW TO TRAVEL WITH YOUR LOMBOK LODGE LIQUID GOLD
Taking home a taste of paradise? Here’s how to bring your Lombok Lodge Liquid Gold safely in your suitcase.
Each jar of our signature honey is carefully wrapped in local protective paper and elegantly placed in a custom wooden box, designed not only to look beautiful but also to keep your honey safe throughout your travels.
The wooden box ensures extra stability, protecting the glass jar from temperature changes and gentle bumps along the journey — so your Liquid Gold arrives home just as perfect as when you first received it.
Whether you’re flying home or continuing your travels across the islands, your Lombok Lodge Liquid Gold is ready to go wherever you go — a sweet reminder of your stay in paradise.
HOW TO STORE YOUR LOMBOK LODGE LIQUID GOLD AT HOME
Brought home a jar of our Lombok Lodge Liquid Gold? Here’s how to keep your precious honey as pure and delicious as the day it was harvested.
Honey is one of nature’s most stable foods — it never truly expires. To preserve its quality, simply store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. There’s no need to refrigerate it, though it’s perfectly fine if you do.
In fact, even freezing honey won’t harm its natural goodness. It may crystallize over time, but that’s just honey’s way of staying pure — a natural sign of authenticity. To return it to its liquid form, gently warm the jar in a bowl of warm water and let nature’s golden nectar flow again.
So whether kept in your pantry or freezer, your Lombok Lodge Liquid Gold will always be ready to add a touch of tropical sweetness to your day.
HOW DO YOU SUPPORT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WITH THE BEES?
During our peak seasons, the honey produced at The Estate – from our 30 bee hives at the on-site Bee Farm, each yielding around one liter of honey per year – is not sufficient to meet our demand.
To support local beekeepers and ensure a consistent supply of our signature Lombok Liquid Gold, we partner with AGUS, OUR HEAD BEEKEEPER and other small-scale Trigona farmers from neighboring villages. We purchase their pure honey directly at fair prices, helping to sustain their livelihoods and encourage traditional beekeeping practices.
Through this collaboration, we not only uphold our commitment to local sustainability but also empower the community’s micro-economy while preserving the art of Trigona honey production on Lombok Island.
