Healthy Cooking with Lombok Coconut Charcoal

29 October 2025 • Written by Wayan Jiwa Raga

From the very beginning, people have gathered around fire ; to cook, to share stories, to feel connected. For me, that connection is what cooking is truly about. Whether it’s in a village kitchen or at The Lombok Lodge Hospitality, every dish begins with the same spark, the warmth of fire and the joy of feeding others. I’ve always believed that all great moments start with fire.

Cooking with Purpose

In Lombok, coconuts are part of everyday life. From the trees that shade our shores to the shells we once threw away. Today, we give those shells a new purpose. By transforming them into coconut charcoal, we cook with something that is both sustainable and healthy, honouring nature instead of taking from it.

This charcoal burns hotter and longer, releases less smoke, and adds a subtle, sweet aroma to food. A whisper of the tropics.
It’s pure, natural, and chemical-free. Just how food should be. When I grill freshly caught seafood or organic vegetables over coconut embers, the scent alone tells me I’m home.

The OFYR® chef’s Table

At our OFYR® Chef’s Table Concept at Lombok Private Villa Estate and as well at our OFYR® Beach Outlet at Gili Meno, guests sit close to the fire. Close to the heart of what I love most. Cooking in the open air, surrounded by the sea breeze and the sound of laughter, is a reminder that food is best enjoyed together. Every dish we prepare, using herbs from our gardens, spices from the island, and coconut charcoal from local farmers, carries a story of Lombok. It’s a dining experience that feels both simple and extraordinary. This, to me, is Lombok at its purest.

Be Coco-Nutty
FROM MY KITCHEN TO OUR COMMUNITY

Beyond the kitchen, I’m proud that our team and Pak Ben and Ibu Anja’s TLL Hospitality supports the many Coco Eco-Artisans of Lombok. At our Boutiques The Frangipani Boutique in Medana Bay, our new Boutique at The Lombok Private Villa Estate, and the Bagno Di Gili Concept Store – you’ll find beautiful items crafted from the same coconuts we cook with. Bowls, candles, jewelry, each piece handmade with care, providing meaningful work to local women and families. It’s a reminder that sustainability begins in small gestures, shared by many hands. Because sometimes, the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.

Come & Experience it

Join me for one of my exceptional Chef’s Tables by the fire. Taste the difference that sustainability makes, in the flavour, in the feeling, in the story behind every bite.

With warmth and coconut-scented smoke,
